ESEH next biennial ordinary general meeting (OGM) Announce

Dear members of the ESEH,

I'm writing today to announce our next biennial ordinary general meeting (OGM), which will take place as an online event despite the fact that we postponed the Bristol conference to 2022. There are indeed a number of institutional duties that we have to accomplish independently of the fact that we will not have a physical meeting: approve the activities of the outgoing board, assess the society's finances, decide possible changes to the membership fees and vote for a new board, some regional representatives, and the financial control committee.

The OGM will take place on July 9, 2021 at 11:00 CEST as a Zoom webinar. The outgoing board will present the relevant reports for the past two years and the candidates for the new board will briefly introduce themselves. Questions will be taken in written form on Zoom's chat and answered live during the webinar.

Elections will take place as a Surveymonkey poll. Details about all candidates running for the different open positions are available on our website: http://eseh.org/events/eseh-nominations-page-2021/<https://eseh.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=4889f0476c5add6417b9b6ea4&id=bce3f5efed&e=ea0772fc2f>. Current members will receive an email invitation that will allow them to anonymously vote once. The email will be sent right after the OGM. Please make sure to check your spam folder for emails from Surveymonkey.

The poll will stay open for 5 days so as to allow the greatest possible participation. A further email will be circulated a week after the OGM to inform you of the results.

Please attend the OGM. In case we don't reach the quorum we will have to call another OGM on a later date and postpone the elections as well.

If you want to participate in the OGM and vote and you haven't paid your dues for 2021 yet, please make sure to do so by June 25, 2021. All information in this regard is also available on our website: http://eseh.org/membership/renew-your-membership/<https://eseh.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=4889f0476c5add6417b9b6ea4&id=53239b75e7&e=ea0772fc2f>.

The link to the Zoom webinar will be shared with members in good standing with membership fees in a separate email after the cut off date for renewals mentioned above.

The GA will be included in an exciting two-day program of events and discussions we will announce with a separate message. Stay tuned...

All best,
Marco Armiero
President of the European Society for Environmental History

Call for Applications: Landhaus Manager

The Rachel Carson Center is looking for a scholar or artist in Environmental Humanities to serve as a residential program manager for our new fellowship program at the RCC Landhaus. The Landhaus Manager will live in the RCC Landhaus and organize the fellowship program for a rotating group of nine international scholars in the environmental humanities. The position begins on 1 January 2022 and initially runs through 31 December 2022.

The Landhaus Manager will be responsible for:
  • facilitating daily life in the Landhaus, including weekly meetings and social events;
  • communicating with fellows before their arrivals, answering questions about logistics;
  • assisting new fellows upon arrival - when possible, providing pick-up from the local train station for new arrivals, helping with registration and paperwork, and providing an orientation to the Landhaus and the RCC.
  • liaising with the staff of the Herrmannsdorfer Landwerkstätten
This role is a new position, in a new program: we estimate that the weekly time commitment will be between ten and twenty hours and we will discuss a schedule and set time parameters during an interview. This is a unique opportunity for someone who enjoys community living, has strong organization skills, and who wants time to pursue their own projects in Environmental Humanities. The Landhaus Manager must commit to the role for one-year; there will be the chance to extend in the event that both parties are in agreement.

The Landhaus Manager will receive a furnished room with own bathroom in the RCC Landhaus in Herrmannsdorf, as well as compensation of approximately 1,000 Euros a month. The exact details will be negotiated at the interview stage.

Candidates for this position must be associated with Environmental Humanities in some way: either as a doctoral or postdoctoral scholar, or as an artist or communicator (writer, journalist, visual artist, etc.) who works on environmental topics. Candidates must speak excellent German, and have excellent written and spoken English. The ideal candidate will possess a valid driver’s license, have experience in communal living and program management, and be able to live and work with people from very different backgrounds. We especially seek applications from qualified individuals with disabilities and welcome applications from women.

To apply, please send your cover letter, CV, and the contact information of two references in one pdf file with the subject ″Landhaus Manager″ to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by 30 June 2021. We will accept applications in English or German. Interviews will take place in mid-July.
